About the Department

Department of Biotechnology was established under Decision No. 240/2001/QD-TCHC signed by the President of Nong Lam University Ho Chi Minh City on February 19, 2001, the time when the government has set the national 20 year- strategy of science and technology development to reach the international level. In particular, biotechnology is considered one of the key industries, giving priority to investment and development.

The Department was assigned to train biotechnology engineers based on traditional agricultural knowledge of agronomy, forestry, animal husbandry, aquaculture together with advanced technological knowledge comprising of gene technology , fermentation technology, cell technology, microbial technology, and biochemical technology. Along with the development of the University, the Department has now had 17 years of continuous development with two majors, an international associate program, graduate program for master as well as doctoral degrees.

Education quality is always the top concern of all the lecturers, administrators and scientific researchers of the Department. Good quality of knowledge and teaching methods, professional skills practiced and the ethical qualities trained during the four-year program have helped learners adapt quickly to their work, justify their competence, catch up with advanced knowledge in the world and contribute to the development of the country. The program structured systemically and flexibly help learners involve in scientific research, satisfy their professional needs, master modern technology and keep up with knowledge of mankind. Prestige and quality of biotechnology engineers graduated from the Department of Biotechnology, Nong Lam University Ho Chi Minh City, is the foundation for the successful career in the current integrated environment and the future.

All lectureres, staffs and students who have been working and studying at the Department of Biotechnology are determined to achieve the goal of building the current Department (and Faculty in the future) to become a school for high-level human resources, a scientific research center, a partner of technology transfer and international exchanges. The continuous investment in facilities combined with the development of qualified faculties will help the Department achieve the aimed objectives.
